Summary: | Mobility in megacities is being marked by the use private and public transportation. Congestion and pollutions remain one of major problems in megacities while urban population is constantly growing. In the same time demands on private transportation are rising. Increase usage of public transportation therefore is inevitable in order to reduce these problems.
Despite its improvement in service qualities does show positive results in people’s choice of transport for commuting, public transport has yet replaces private motorized vehicles. Human congestion in public transportation is another unavoidable problem. Phenomenon of excess travel, unnecessary mileage attached to routine trips, such as the journey to work, is also noticed.
This project takes Singapore as study model. As a city state, Singapore is regarded as one of highly populated area in the world. The importance of public transportation could be seen through its rapid growth of development in Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) lines. As land is scarce, to own a vehicle in Singapore is expensive and difficult. However, private vehicles population keeps increasing as it is favoured for its convenience, flexibility and privacy offered.
This project focuses on two-seated personal urban mobility vehicle as suitable vehicle for urban environment; and vehicle sharing system as promising mobility system in future. Internet and smart phones will have major role in future mobility. |
