Under what circumstances is it okay to justify a termination in pregnancy?" These are questions that are not often raised due to its controversial nature but are questions that one will find echoed throughout my project. The multiple facets of abortions through varying circumstances and viewpoints are explored and considered. Highlighted in my exploration will be the common misconception of "freedom" and what does it mean to have a defiant defence for the fetus who is unable to speak for itself. As a strong advocate of the gift of life, it is my desire to be the spokesperson for the unborn and the defender of the defenceless. I approach the subject matter with an intention to make a stand on pro-life, I have dove into both primary as well as secondary research materials - gathering information via surveys and interviews as well as conducting extensive research through journals, books and articles pertaining to the matter. Localizing the subject, Singapore advocates pro-choice and the freedom for women in its democratic movement. The irony, however, is that Singapore in all its democracy does not encourage the freedom of speech and hence there is a lack of open debate on this issue. Failure to do so has also contributed to an uninformed population who are unsure of which side to choose and what their stand is. This is evident when 77% of the 70 Singaporean youth I surveyed were clueless about what pro-life and pro-choice were. One might ask then, am I hoping for abortion to be made legislatively illegal? My answer is yes. My desire is to raise the awareness on this issue, exploring the political, economical and social dimensions of the complexities of this matter. Most importantly, I aspire to inculcate in my viewers the detrimental repercussions of abortion and propose alternative solutions as a means to the problem instead so as to steer people away from the idea of abortion, not even making it a final resort.
