Summary: | With the increasing threat of terrorist attacks, it is crucial for government agencies to research on the ability of a building to resist progressive collapse. The alternate load path method, which is easier to adopt, is a popular method to mitigate progressive collapse. Tests were conducted with specimens designed in accordance with new Euro-Code 2 (EC2). The sub-assemblages include two-span beams with two column stubs and a middle beam-column joint. The test aims to investigate specimen behaviour until it reaches failure. An actual column-removal scenario was simulated as part of the Alternate Path Method aimed to mitigate progressive collapse. During the test, several mechanisms will be studied, from flexural action, compressive arch action (CAA) to catenary action. Vertical and horizontal restraints were provided in the tests to simulate appropriate boundary conditions. A load will be applied to the middle column by a hydraulic actuator until the sub-assemblages reach complete failure. Using the results, an analysis will be included together with test results and discussion. This research not only allows us to obtain results with regards to load-transfer mechanism of these sub-assemblages, but also more details on the behaviour of precast concrete middle column joint and the difference between two detailings. |
