As we age, our bodies succumb to the toils of time. Chronic pains, loss of strength and deteriorating eyesight are usual suspects hindering the ability to ambulate. Independence becomes pegged to one’s level of mobility. The introduction of mobility aids into one’s life can be intrusive and unappealing. More conservative persons refuse the use of such aids and choose to seek solace within the confines of their bed. Prolonged bed rest will negatively affect the body, thereby aggravating existing symptoms and promoting new ones. The status of the society today offers a potential concern to be addressed; an imminent aging population, shrinking living spaces affecting family dynamics and an increase in the cost of living. The project looks at the emergence of older consumers and focuses on independent living for the elderly, motivating users to get out of bed and get on with life by being self reliant.
