Description
Summary:As the very last batch of this bamboo project, this report seeks to summarize up the achievements of this 4 year long project since it was started in 2008 by Mr Ng Kuan Ming, Mr Yeo Shi Wei, Ms Vimalatulasi D/O Vetrivel and Ms Quek Ming Hui. Over these four years, this bamboo project has narrowed down from the architecture of the bamboo shelter to investigating the properties of the bamboo via compression test, buckling test, tensile test and wooden peg test. Due to the joints being highlighted as the most critical component of the whole bamboo shelter, this led to the design of joints reinforced with galvanized plates and screws. By inheriting all the lessons from the past reports, the author and team have made adjustments in experimental procedures and most importantly, come up with a new conceptual design. At the final and current stage, the joints underwent a revamp to include rubbers and aluminum reinforced plates as cushions so as to achieve an even more ductile kind of failure in earthquake prone zones like Indonesia.
