Summary:Due to various aspects of applications, there is an increasing interest of developing sensor networks among researchers. In the meantime, a testbed system with performance monitoring components becomes essential during the sensor network design and development process which helps researchers to significantly reduce the testing time and cost. The motivation of this report is to record the research, design and implementation on a testbed for sensor network development that the author conducted during the Final Year Project. The testbed is able to control the power supply, as well as measure the voltage and current values of the sensor nodes in a sensor network. The system contains Relay Boards for individual sensor node to control the power supply and gather the power consumption data. There is also software component of the system to processing the data and present results to researchers through user interface and reporting. The report initiates with a brief introduction of the project followed by a throughout literature review on current research of testbed development. The next two chapters illustrate the system design and implementation in both hardware and software perspectives. Furthermore, the testing result and system performance is evaluated. Last but not least, the report concludes with the critical points and future improvement of the testbed for sensor network development.
