Description
Summary:Today, a significant part of the population is connected to social media through one way or another. Websites such as Facebook and Twitter have become platforms for people to receive information, propagate ideas and to express their opinions. As a marketer, it is important to tap on these platforms to gain an understanding of how the public perceives one’s brand/product. However, it can be very laborious and tedious to monitor public reactions and opinions on one’s brand/product, given the diversity of the social platforms and the voluminous information available. A way around this problem would be to introduce a data monitoring and gathering solution. The solution, which we are presenting for this project, is Rosebud. Rosebud.mosuma.net is a website that offers the solution of data monitoring and gathering. Through this website, data is consolidated over time to produce meaningful graphs and statistics that provide a bird’s eye view of the user’s public image. Using such information gathered, marketers are able to strategize their marketing plan to promote their brands/products more effectively on their targeted consumer groups. However, Rosebud is still far from being a complete competitive business monitoring solution. It is in its preliminary stage of development and our team aims to transform it into a stable prototype. In this report, I will be elaborating on my contributions towards the development of Rosebud – Design for Quality Assurance. The report is chronologically and methodically organized into two main sections – Research and Development. In the Research section, I will be examining the influence of social media on consumption habits in Singapore. I will also discuss the competitive analysis that was conducted to evaluate the product, as well as the technical review on the social media monitoring metrics. This is to enable us to understand the relative market position of our product in the market. This will enable us to address the needs and wants of consumers when designing Rosebud. In the Development section, I will address the front-end design and code structure of Rosebud. We have used centralized CSS and Django’s template for Rosebud. This solution was conceived based on the requirements specifications and use-case diagram. The implementation of Rosebud was a success with respect to the test plan (which include functional and non-functional requirements), and we managed to develop a stable Rosebud prototype, which will serve as a platform for future development.
