Though efficiency in logistic management and goods transportation is vital to Singapore's economy, it is worthy to note that the area of freight transportation has received insufficient attention and research interest. The objective of this project is to provide a better understanding of freight transportation in Singapore through the investigation on the current trends, operations and processes, movements, as well as key issues and problems relating to goods vehicles. Introduction on unique practices implemented by respective local authorities, such as Certificate of Entitlement (COE), Vehicle Quota System (VQS) and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) will be further explored in this report. These could be the reasons that influence the trends of goods vehicle usage in Singapore. Useful statistics and figures collected from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore and other national authorities provide the trends, and rules and regulations imposed on goods vehicles. It is pertinent to review the general characteristics of goods vehicles on roads to address the problems contributed by them to the society at large. Improvements and resolutions can be made to minimize the intrusion of goods vehicle movements on the community’s environment besides maximizing the efficiency of goods distribution to better serving the community consumption.
