In 2005, MARPOL limited the amount of sulphur permitted in shipping fuel to 4.5% globally, and 1.5% in ECAs. The revision of MARPOL Annex VI in 2008 indicates that from 1st of January 2012, the global cap for sulphur in bunker fuel will be 3.5 % and will aim to lower it to 0.5 % in July 2020. MARPOL...
