Bio-treatment of effluent from anaerobically digested urban waste using microalgae (Chlorella Sorokiniana)

Municipal wastewater in Singapore is typically treated in centralized wastewater treatment plants. However, most of the nutrients and energy content of wastewater is wasted during the treatment. The Residues and Resource Reclamation Centre (R3C) has proposed a CRP Project: Community as Renewable Res...

However, most of the nutrients and energy content of wastewater is wasted during the treatment. The Residues and Resource Reclamation Centre (R3C) has proposed a CRP Project: Community as Renewable Resource Recovery Centres, which aims to provide the solution of recovering the precious energy in wastewater. These recovery centers are decentralized form of wastewater treatment that is integrated with Singapore housing infrastructure, saving space in the process, which is essential in land-scarce Singapore. Algae have been gaining recognition in its suitability and ability to consume wastewater nutrients (anaerobic wastewater effluent) while producing high value algae biomass.
