Experimental investigations on composite slabs : punching shear, vertical shear and flexural failure

There are primarily four possible modes of failure for composite slabs which are longitudinal shear bond failure, punching shear, vertical shear and flexural failure. This report presents the experimental results and analytical study on three of the failure modes which are punching shear, vertical s...

This report presents the experimental results and analytical study on three of the failure modes which are punching shear, vertical shear and flexural failure. The purpose is to identify the most critical mode of failure of composite slabs. Specimens which are being tested for longitudinal shear bond failure will undergo two tests – dynamic test and static test. For dynamic test, the slabs will be subjected to cyclic loading and this will cause any kind of chemical adhesion between steel and concrete to be removed and static load will then be applied. For the longitudinal shear bond failure, two different spans of slabs (longer and shorter spans) are used to examine the load-deflection characteristics and the end slip behavior of slabs.
