Chew Ah Seng, David School of Civil and Environmental Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Maritime studies::Maritime management and business In recent years, the environmental impact due to shipping activities is receiving increasing attention in the world. There is increasing pressure on the shipping industry to improve their operations towards greener operations. To achieve this, collaborations between the different stakeholders of the industry is crucial for the success. This report focuses on the Green Shipping issues and challenges faced by port operators during port operations. From the analysis of the current situations in Singapore’s port and studies of other ports, some possible measures to improve Singapore’s port operations to move towards the goal of becoming a green port will be discussed. The main environmental problem that will be discussed is air pollution, due to its direct adverse impact on human health which is especially crucial for port cities, like Singapore. Phases of implementation of these recommendations are suggested to achieve maximum benefits from these measures. At the same time, possible issues and challenges that might arise during implementation are examined together with the implications that it might have on Singapore’s port.
