Stereotypical perceptions of ageing run deep within the minds of most people, with conventional wisdom telling us that ageing is something inevitable. In light of this, it is important for there to be proper education on the facts regarding ageing so that the measures taken to tackle the ageing problem can be both appropriate and effective. This review will collate the recent advances in the field of biogerontology to give a clearer picture as to what we understand so far about biological ageing, and in the process attempt to challenge a number of common misunderstandings held towards ageing.
