Tsunamis have always been an underrated natural disaster but the recent global incidents made us realize the destructive power of Tsunamis. There are several natural barriers that can reduce the impact of Tsunamis such as mangrove forests but we chose to focus this project on sand dunes as there is a lack of research on the effectiveness of such a natural defense system. A set of experiment was carried out to study the reduction in wave run-up and wave height as we varied the wave heights and dune spacing and it showed that wave run-up was reduced the most when the spacing between the dunes were larger. The experimental data will then be examined to determine the most important factor in the effectiveness of the sand dunes in reducing Tsunami wave run-up and energy transmission.
