Summary:Japan has been a leader in disaster management. Through two of the best-documented earthquakes’ case studies in Japan, none other than the 1995 Kobe Earthquake and the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, this paper seeks to comprehend the effects brought about by mega earthquakes and tsunamis, thereby going forward to discuss the disaster control and monitoring in Japan. By implementing several measures of disaster management such as preparedness, mitigation and insurance, this paper evaluates the usefulness and viability of the current systems. This paper presents the damages, recovery and reconstruction efforts of each event. By reviewing on what has/had been done, this paper looks into ways of improvements before the next big one strikes.
