Summary: | The creation and consumption of energy is a necessity in today’s world. It has drastically increased the quality of life of modern society and has allowed the rapid advancement of modern technology. Today, increased energy and power generation demand is being met largely by reserves of fossil fuel that emit both greenhouse gases and other pollutants. Those reserves are diminishing and they will become ncreasingly expensive. Thankfully, with the creation of fuel cells, this will eventually solve the problem of diminishing fossil fuel and reduce the potential high inflation due to their increasing price. One of the creations of fuel cell is PEMFC. PEMFC have drawn a great deal of attention in recent years due to their high efficiency, high power density and low or zero emissions. This report provides an overview of fuel cell technology, types, functions, applications, and fundamentals of how fuel cell works. It will also cover the designing a PEMFC components and materials such as MEA, gasket, bipolar plates, end plates and current collectors. Lastly, it will further explain the basic stack design include stack configuration, stack clamping, stack size, number of cell and the Balance-of-Plant Components (BOP). |
