Description
Summary:Different factors that affect the stability and deformation of an underground rock excavation are examined to find out what kind of effect they have on an underground excavation. The software, Phase2 developed by Rocsience, is used in the analysis of existing data obtained from different sources to better understand how the different factors such as shapes of underground excavation, supporting pressure from supports installed and internal pressure of excavated area affect the excavation area. 3D simulation of tunneling was also done to have better understanding of the relationship between stresses, deformation and distance from excavation face. The use of closed form solution was used for comparisons Examples from different sources were used to help in the analysis of the different factors. Knowledge will be gained about how the different factors can cause different effects on the underground excavation which can allow better prediction of tunnel behaviour and thus having better tunnel design.
