Investigation on the fuel cell powered vehicles

In today’s modern society, the commercialisation of the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) has been so successful that it is very common to see these vehicles travelling on the roads. However, the Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) in the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are dependent on petrol as fuel...

School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Zhao Jiyun DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Electric power::Auxiliaries, applications and electric industries In today’s modern society, the commercialisation of the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) has been so successful that it is very common to see these vehicles travelling on the roads. However, the Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) in the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are dependent on petrol as fuel to operate. In addition, the exhaust gases which are emitted by the Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) also contribute to the air pollution. Thus, the Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCVs) are introduced. In this project, the fuel cell powered vehicles were investigated. Before the fuel cell powered vehicles were investigated, the fuel cell technology had to be studied first. In the study of the fuel cell technology, the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) were found to be the most suitable type of fuel cells to be used in the fuel cell powered vehicles mainly due to their operating temperature. In the investigation of the fuel cell powered vehicles, the Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) components, the fuel cell system design for Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCVs), the control of fuel cell system for Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCVs) and the fault diagnosis of fuel cell system were discussed.
