Description
Summary:This project is to design and set up a Land-based Energy Management System (LEMS) that is capable of incorporating renewable and traditional energy resources. The proposed system of 50/60 Hz three-phase variable voltage in the range of 400 V will be used for powering ships at berth. The system provides an application that is capable of metering and charging the kWh amount of shore-toship energy. An electric bill is automatically generated at the end of the grid connection. The system is scalable and capable of simultaneous energy transfer to two or more vessels when the system supply capacity is expanded in the future. LEMS helps to switch from the ship's heavy fuel oil (HFO) to cleaner land-based fuels (primarily gas) and hence cuts down unnecessary CO2 emissions. It opens up new business opportunities by providing electric energy to ships. The objective of the Final Year Project is to focus on metering and billing modules which includedesign and implement an electronic billing system and energy purchased data logging for shore power application. Power meters are set up for realtime monitoring of the power sources and loads by acquiring data from the meter to transmit through graphical user interface by using LabVIEW programming. The reliable and efficient electronic billing system will then calculate the exact amount of energy usage and generate bills. Testing will be carried out through designing an Energy Management System (EMS) for real-time monitoring and system functionalities.
