FYP report on experimental study of buoy-type wave energy convertors
Ocean waves are a vast yet largely unexploited energy resource, and the potential for extracting energy from waves are substantial. Due to the depletion in fossil fuel, the need to tap on renewable energy resource becomes a target on the recent research. Although ocean wave energy is one of the most...

Due to the depletion in fossil fuel, the need to tap on renewable energy resource becomes a target on the recent research. Although ocean wave energy is one of the most promising sustainable energy resources, it is still considered immature in contrast to other renewable energy technologies. Hence this project aims to introduce the various types of wave energy convertors but concentrates on the buoy-type energy convertor also known as the point absorber. Experiments are conducted using the wave flume to study the hydrodynamic performance of the buoy-type energy convertor and the also the wave extraction efficiency. Results and analysis have been discussed and dampers were introduced to improve the performance of buoy-type energy convertor and wave extraction efficiency.
