Summary:The oil and gas industry is increasingly exploring and exploiting resources at remote offshore sites which creates a variety of problems. One of the new challenges aroused from moving into deeper waters is the design fatigue life of the Steel Catenary Riser (SCR). The hydrodynamic forces such as wave force create cyclic stresses at the touchdown point of the SCR as well as causing the riser to lift up and lay down repeatedly at this point; therefore the fatigue life might also be dependent on the seabed soil behavior under these conditions.
