Description
Summary:This report of Final Year Project (FYP) serves as a summary of what has been done to fulfill the project requirement during the final year studies. It covers the introduction to the project, literature review, applicable theory related to the topic, testing programmes to obtain experimental data, discussion of results and conclusion of the project. This project is to study the relationship between Soil-Water Characteristics Curve (SWCC) and shear strength characteristics of proposed two kinds of top soils in Singapore. The literature review and applicable theory includes the previous research and applied theory related to this topic. The testing programmes consist of index properties tests, multi-stage triaxial tests and SWCC tests. The effective cohesions, ?,, for Top Soil 1 and 2 are 6.8 kPa and 16.9 kPa respectively. The angles of internal friction associated with the net normal stress, ∅,, for Top Soil 1 and 2 are 21.8˚ and 28.1˚ respectively.
