Through experimental investigation of heat transfer using single nozzle spray cooling, the author endeavours to gain deep understanding of the effects of various parameters on the heat transfer performance. The author designed and fabricated a heater block to simulate one dimensional heat transfer with uniform temperature distribution using FLUENT. The copper heating surface has a surface area of 490 mm2 and is heated by a total of 6 heater cartridges (controlled by a transformer) capable of delivering variable power. The heat transfer performance of single spray cooling using FN3 nozzle was investigated under varying spray height from 5mm to 26mm and at different mass flow rate. The temperatures along different points along the neck of the copper heating block were recorded and used to calculate the surface temperature by Fourier’s law of conduction. The heat transfer coefficient is then derived from Newton’s law of cooling and compared across different spray heights.
