Summary: | Most of modern large scale wind turbines operate at variable speed. Variable speed control method maximise the conversion efficiency and the speed can vary so as to reduce strain on the drive train. In addition, to operate the wind turbine above wind speed, pitch controlled blades are usually in widely use now a day. The variable speed pitch regulated turbines has more control flexibility such as better power quality, longer useful life and higher conversion efficiency. However, the variable speed pitch regulated wind turbines require more complex control system. In other words more advance controller is needed and so as the testing and evaluation of these controllers.
This report is a study of wind turbine systems. In depth research of wind turbine system will be carried out. Mathematical models and equation of wind turbine system will be discussed in details. Complete wind turbine system models will be set up using state space modelling. Step by step wind turbine system modelling will be described. |
