Description
Summary:In last few years there has been significant growth in the area of wireless communication. Quality of Service (QoS) has become an important consideration for supporting variety of applications that utilize considerable network resources. These applications include Voice over IP, video streaming, Internet TV, video conference and other multimedia services. IEEE 802.16, also called WiMAX, is an emerging wireless technology designed with quality of service in mind. This project focuses on implementation and analysis of quality of service (QoS) in WiMAX mesh networks. It provides a study of WiMAX network architecture and further presents a detailed QoS mechanism that can be implemented in WiMAX network. In this project, a WiMAX Mesh network is implemented in OMNeT++, and two main QoS service flows are setup in the simulation environment. Parameters that indicate quality of service including mean delay, throughput and packet loss rate are analyzed for different types of service flows. Simulation results indicate that QoS service can be achieved in WiMAX Mesh network by using the proposed scheduling mechanism.
