Description
Summary:Bioscience practical allows students to apply and extend their knowledge and understanding of bioscience concepts in an exploratory setting, which can stimulate interest whilst improving their memory. Based on our experience, even though laboratory protocols and the equipments used may be different as technology improves, teaching methods remain relatively constant. Practical sessions begin with a mass introduction and briefing, followed by students carrying out the experiment in pairs or small groups, and finally collection of results. Although this method has always used, we wish to further improve their learning experience by providing visualization of the lab protocol with the use of video aids and encourage independent learning. Hence, instructional videos are produced as self-directed guides and implemented as a form of teaching aid in this study. Even though the video was not done by professionals, the students were able to carry out the experiments more efficiently with greater understanding of the explanations and concepts provided in the video aids. The implementation of video aids has improved preparation for practical and developed more independent and self-directed learners.
