Summary: | The main objectives of the research project have been achieved. A proper understanding of the factors that have a significant influence on the capacity for the LCP phase in LCP-based polymer blends to form strong in situ fibres during processing have been established. Based on the experimental studies, models to predict the effect of processing on microstructure and mechanical properties of components have been established. Factors that have to be controlled during processing by injection molding and extrusion have been identified. Based on the above, the scientific know-how to develop LCP blends of high commercial value for electronic and other demanding applications have been established. The specific fundamental principles that cause fibrillation of the LCP phase in polymer blends are outlined in detail in the Abstract and in the report. |
