Description
Summary:Radiation has come to a public awareness after the leakage of nuclear radiation from the failure of nuclear reactors in Japan at Fukushima. Not only are the Japanese concerned about the leakage of the nuclear radiation, so does Singaporean even though Singapore is 5700 km away from the disaster area. In this report, a few analyses were done on the environmental radiation and the results are collected from various locations. The experiments were done to measure the radiation of Seng Kang which is located in north-east area of Singapore. The purpose of these experiments is to allow the author to have a better understanding on the radiation survey meter and the surrounding radiation environment. The results that the author has obtained are 2.5 times higher than the National Environment Agency had measured. It is due to the different methods of measurement where the NEA obtained their environmental radiation results from 4 protected rural areas whereas the results that the author obtained is more relevant as the areas the author took the measurement is urbanized where the people work and lived in. Therefore, the radiation contribution to the surrounding was possibility from the activities at that location and the standard deviation of radiation level on one location is rather small.
