Description
Summary:In today’s world of storage mediums, the traditional medium of storage in the form of hard disk drives (HDDs) are facing stiff and increasing competition due to the swift advances in flash and solid state drives as an alternate form of storage. As such, HDD manufacturers have strived to retain the forte of HDDs, which is price per megabyte, and storage density. And it is this desire to achieve such high areal density magnetic recording, which is the main contributor to reducing the spacing between the slider head and the magnetic disks. Simultaneously, contact between the slider and the magnetic disks, which would have an increased chance of occurring due to the smaller spacing, and increasingly demanding operational and environmental conditions, must be avoided to prevent loss of precious data.
