Summary: | Silica aerogel has been explored as possible filler for use in composite sandwich structure. This field of study has been inspired by the excellently low density of aerogel and hence a potential candidate to improve strength-to-weight ratio in composite sandwich structure. Previous research has shown that aerogel granules tend to decrease the peel strength of sandwich structure when used as fillers; hence aerogel blocks are suggested as a probable improvement. |
