Description
Summary:In most of the developed countries, the temperature of urban area is several degrees higher compared to its surrounding suburban and urban areas, this phenomenon is called the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. As Singapore is rapidly developed and urbanized, the UHI effect is expected to be worsening in the near future. UHI effect causes thermal discomfort to the occupants or users in the building. This impact is even serious for a country with hot climate. Various methods have been adopted to achieve thermal comfort in a building. Currently, the most common method to achieve thermal comfort is air-conditioning system. However, it also brings up environmental and energy issue.
