Description
Summary:A vessel produces heat through the engine fresh water cooling system and engine exhaust system. The heat if not used, will be transferred to the sea water system or to the atmosphere. As an effort to conserve energy, waste heat recovery unit are thus developed for other heating requirement in the vessel, such as heating the heavy fuel oil, heating potable water for the accommodation and producing steam. More awareness is created in the subject of ballast water treatment since its birth in the IMO convention. The industry sees this as a new business opportunity and started to investigate into the various methods of treatment. In this report, the use of waste heat and its practicality for ballast water treatment will be studied and assessed.
