Against the backdrop of globalization and the rise of China, Chinese diaspora have transcended political boundaries and moved around in large scale, thus jolting the connections between citizenship and nationhood. New narratives of citizenship have stemmed from the frequent interactions across world scenes. Adopting multi-layer and multi-dimension approach, this study examines how two Malaysian Chinese entrepreneurs, Tiong Hiew King and Ng Teck Fong, have crossed national boundaries and how many facets have revolved around their cultural and political identities. There are differences in the trajectory and operation of diasporic citizenship that the two entrepreneurs have experienced. Tiong has expanded and reconstructed Chinese diasporic citizenship, attempting to alter national situations from a larger narrative. |
