School of Computer Engineering Parallel and Distributed Computing Centre He Bingsheng DRNTU::Engineering::Computer science and engineering::Computer applications With the advancement of technology over the years, there are new products and softwares being produced to provide convenience in our lives. One of the instances is IF This Then That, known as IFTTT. IFTTT is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement. In simpler terms, the “this” part involves a certain criteria (e.g. if it rains) and the “that” part involves an action (send a text message). However with the advancement of technology, there will be security breaches due to the information being transmitted over the network. Hence, one of the objectives of this project is to explore the various ways in creating convenience for NTU users as safe as possible. In order to create a central platform where NTU users would be able to activate or deactivate the channel provided, web application program will be developed in this project. Hence, security feature such as the basic login system and the more advanced two-factor authenticator (i.e. login authentication) is implemented in IFTTT@NTU. The design methodology adopted in this project is the waterfall model where it follows a standard procedure of requirement specification, design, implementation and testing followed by load and stress testing. Waterfall model strictly follows the flow of the procedure and meetings were arranged to confirm each procedures also known as milestones (i.e. during second meetings, two ideas were going to be implemented in IFTTT@NTU will be strictly adhere to). Load testing is vital as it can simulate a system’s behaviour under anticipated peak load condition. By knowing the load, it allows you to limit the capacity before the system crashes, resulting in downtime. A good database design can lead to better system performance due to reduction of redundancy. The end product of this project is the development of IFTTT@NTU website. Although there are some limitations which can be improved on in the future, it performs the basic functionality, which is to send user email to update him of any new updates if he subscribed to the channel. The channel used in IFTTT@NTU is the NTU sports club website and NTU student union website where if there is any new update, it allows user to receive notification through email. With the advancement of technology over the years, there are new products and softwares being produced to provide convenience in our lives.
