Summary: | Scene reconstruction from images captured by a camera array has resemblance to the technique of creating panoramas through image stitching. Image stitching is a technique used to blend multiple images of the same scene together which is similar to scene reconstruction. By looking at the mechanism of image stitching, one can understand the basis to scene reconstruction.
In this project, the image stitching process is researched and reviewed to understand what is crucial. Image stitching software is tested and results were evaluated to see what mechanism is most crucial for stitching images captured from camera array. As images taken from camera array can be quite a lot, a simulation using a camera mounted on a slider is used.
Image registration, feature detection and transformation models were discussed and reviewed to understand their roles in the process of image stitching. |
