Description
Summary:Liquid Crystal Displays(LCD) are literally everywhere today, from the mobile phones consumers carry in their pockets to the computer screens they stare at all day.Grinding is one of the most important processes to manufacture hard-brittle materials such as optical glass. Grinding process is by using an abrasive wheel as the cutting tool, which grain of abrasive cuts a small chip from the workpiece via shear deformation. However, due to the hard and brittle nature of LCD glass, ground specimen often contains brittle damages. Since the subsurface damages, i.e., subsurface micro-cracks, strongly affect the mechanical strength and the function of LCD glasses, it is essential to explore grinding characteristics and investigate the effects of grinding parameters (grinding depth of cut, wheel speed, feed rate) on grinding performance.
