Damien Joseph Nanyang Business School Singapore Association for the Deaf DRNTU::Business DRNTU::Business::Information technology The team is working with The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf) as its client to produce a Database Management System (DBMS) for their operations. The main motivation behind this project lies with increasing interest in the local philanthropic scene whereby total donations grew at 11% per annum (Lam, 2012). Being students, the team has limited financial resources to contribute in aforementioned aspect. Hence, the team decided on undertaking an IT development project as an alternative form of philanthropic act, utilising the team’s IT capabilities learned in school to help enhance SADeaf’s operations. The main focus of this project is targeted towards virtualizing the process of SADeaf in terms of contacting and recording its volunteers for various events. This is done through carrying out problem analysis to identify SADeaf’s inherent problems with their current processes, followed by project management methodologies to ensure comprehensive planning and tracking of the project to meet project time, cost, schedule, and quality objectives. Next, the team conducted requirements analysis through prototype development to identify both functional and non-functional requirements of the database to meet SADeaf’s needs, and moved on to designing the database. Feasibility analysis was done and results showed that developing the database in-house was the best approach, which the team adopted. After database development, the team moved on to testing, and final installation was done, together with user training, at SADeaf’s premise on 8th February 2013.
