| Summary: | In Singapore, accused persons in criminal cases can be convicted based on their confessions; provided these confessions are voluntarily made. There are, however, inherent dangers of such convictions because of the possible falsity of these voluntary confessions. As such, there is a need for both a technically and morally sound criminal justice system. The necessity for refinements to the current law of confessions in Singapore arises as the law should not allow any wrongful conviction based on false confessions. The Group hopes that this dissertation will provide the reader with some ideas on the possible areas of reform. |
