More specifically, it attempts to find out the adequacy of the policies, age discriminatory practices, and the attitudes of employers towards older workers. Three companies from three industries in Singapore were used as case-studies. The study employs a qualitative-based case study approach and covers organisations in the marine, manufacturing and service industries. Moreover, it reviews the literature on human resource practices and strategies required for effective management of human resources, and in particular older workers. The significance of the study stems from the growing awareness that older workers are becoming the fastest growing segment in the workforce of Singapore. Given the changing demographic trend and the tight labour market condition in Singapore, it would be beneficial for the companies to formulate human resource policies and practices that would help them to retain the older workers for as long as possible. Also, the major concerns of both the older workers and the companies which employ them are highlighted. The report makes some recommendations to help address the concerns of the older workers.
