Furthermore, the Singaporean government has constantly emphasized the need to maintain multiracialism and multiculturalism. Singaporeans identify themselves closely to their ethnic backgrounds, which includes race, culture, values, norms and language. Hence, interethnic marriages are increasingly complex due to the emergence of both husband and wife’s ethnicity. This might result in conflicts accompanied by the process of social negotiation, which affects social relationships. This research seeks to gain insights to interethnic marriages through the perspectives of Chinese middle class females married to individuals of different ethnic background in Singapore. In addition, the research aims to examine how Chinese middle class females engage in social negotiation within interethnic marriages.
