| Summary: | This project researches on how family, peers, religion, politics and society in general influence the psychological, emotional, and sometimes economical well-being of lesbians and thereby affect their lesbian relationships. Family, religion and politics can negatively affect one’s lesbian identity while the support from peers can be empowering to their lesbian identity. Society’s attitude toward homosexuality is still rather controversial albeit shifting to a more positive one. The romantic relationships of lesbians aged 21 to 27 in Singapore are studied using the methodology of participant-observation, face-to-face interviews and surveys. This is to understand how their environment affects their relationship with their lesbian partner and their perspective of a future relationship. The purpose of this research is to advocate equal rights and recognition for the homosexuals in Singapore so that they are able to marry and start a family legally with the one they love. |
