Summary: | Interracial marriages are becoming more prevalent in today’s society, particularly in the Singaporean context. However, although much has been done to address the phenomenon, the effects of interracial marriages on the children of such mixed heritages are relatively understudied. This paper aims to find out how two separate racial cultures are integrated and inculcated into the lives of multiracial children. The study centres around Eurasian-Chinese families in Singapore, using interviews with children and their parents to assess the ways in which the former are racially identified. Findings showed race to be optional and context-based. Children are also more inclined towards the racial culture they are most exposed to. There was no significant correlation found between socioeconomic status and racial identity of children. |
