Multiculturalism, state secularism and the notion of a ‘common space’ are ideologies and mental frameworks that ensure religion remains privatized. This paper argues against the
prevalent assumption that omitting and obscuring one’s faith is a form of suppression.Teachers have a belief that such manifestations can be negative and thus they actively engage in discipline work and inadvertently, are complicit in perpetuating the religious-secular divide. |
