Tung Lai Lai Nanyang Business School DRNTU::Business::Accounting The purpose of this research is to gather some general information that pertains to the implementation of information kiosks on the part of the firm as well as the users’ view on such machines. Information kiosks are machines that can either disseminate information, handle transactions or perform both functions. For the purpose of our study, these kiosks are classified into four different types of information kiosks with respect to the functions that they perform. These four types of kiosks are Basic Information kiosks, High Transactional kiosks, High Information Dissemination kiosks and High-End kiosks. The advancement of information technology and gaining popularity of computers in Singapore have motivated us to research into the viability of information kiosks as one of the vehicles that could help transform Singapore into an ‘intelligent island’. With the increasing popularity of information kiosks, we believe that could provide users with great benefits that could bring a great change in our everyday lives. Basically, two types of research methodology had been employed for our study. They were questionnaire survey on the general public and interviews with companies which have implemented such kiosks. The purpose of this survey is to find out the public views on the information kiosks. While the interview is to explore into the motivations behind firms that have implemented such information kiosks as well as the firms’ consideration and benefits derived.
