Description
Summary:This projectfocuses on the fabrication of Magnéli Phased Titanium sub-oxides coated Titanium electrode for electrochemical application. Two different methods of depositing Magnéli Phased Titanium sub-oxides on Titanium substrates were studied. Method I employed the idea of coating of TiO2 sol-gel on the substrate and followed by reduction in hydrogen atmosphere to obtain Magnéli Phased Titanium sub - oxides. Method II however started off with reduction of TiO2 powder to Magnéli Phased Titanium sub-oxides powder before coating them onto the substrate with sol. Three different coating methods were also adapted in coating the substrates in Method II; they were spin, dip and roll-to-roll coating. Cyclic voltammetry test was conducted to investigate the electrochemical properties of the electrodes fabricated. Method II exhibited film with better mechanical stability and coverage than Method I’s electrodes. However it showed sign of re-oxidation of Magnéli Phased Titanium sub-oxides. For Method II, the SEM imaging showed that dip and roll-to-roll coating has better coverage of the film with increased porosity than spin coating.
