Nanyang Business School Geraldine Chen DRNTU::Business As Singapore attempts to develop an external economy, there is a need for entrepreneurs to venture overseas and establish a presence in foreign countries. This is by no means an easy feat. Besides the all-important business acumen and hard work, there is also a need for a good knowledge and understanding of the happenings around the nation, the region or the world. This project thus aims to gauge the level of awareness of current affairs among the present batch of undergraduates, who form the majority of people targeted for the overseas enterprises. It estimates the average marks scored by undergraduates and explores the reasons for any differences in standard among the various groups and categories. Although a high score does not necessarily mean that they will definitely make it abroad, it certainly increases the likelihood of success. On the other hand, a low score will be disastrous as it means that these would-be entrepreneurs do not have a firm foundation to work on. Therefore, we firmly believe that a sufficiently high level of awareness is the minimum criteria for any overseas ventures. Judging from the survey results, our undergraduates are fairly well-acquainted with current affairs and most students are aware of the more significant events happening around them. In particular, it was found that male and final year students outperformed their female and non-final year counterparts significantly. For the other attributes being tested, namely, course of study, year of study and hostel residence, there was no significant evidence to prove that they affect an undergraduate’s level of current affairs awareness. These were the more significant results observed.
