As the test-bed program for electric vehicles (EV) nears the end of its assessment, the Singapore government will need to decide whether to have this green form of transportation for mass adoption. This year is the final year of the assessment and Singaporeans can expect EV taxis in the future if the green light is given. The purpose of the project is to conceptualise the IVI system for future EV taxis. In this report, the author provides an overall analysis and design of the IVI system in an EV taxi. Many ideas were explored and expanded for the features of the IVI system. Information to analyse the problem statement came from both the internet, as well as TUM Create, who are in the midst of creating an iconic EV taxi for Singapore. The author used the approach of a modified waterfall model to develop the Android applications. Throughout the software development, the author constantly verified and validated the concept of the IVI system to ensure that the project would be successful. This final year project report documents the success of a fully functional music player application for the centre console, as well as the car control applications for passenger’s mobile device. Future students can use this report as a reference to continue the work and implement other ideas found in this report. If the IVI system is integrated into the future EV taxi, it will deliver the value proposition for commuter’s choice of travel. Many of us live connected at home, at work and other places as well. Extending this connectivity into a vehicle would be a natural extension to our digital lives. In-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems make this extension possible.
