Summary: | With the increase of smartphones, sensing capabilities can be found on an average individual out on the streets. The application of such sensing capabilities can be explored to solve problems through the use of smartphones.
With the evolution of shopping malls, shopping malls get bigger and complex. As Global Positioning System (GPS) can only be used outdoors, shoppers have to rely on information counters, store directories or passer-bys for help when they get lost.
Thus with the sensing capabilities of a smartphone, a smartphone mobile application can be developed to aid in locating and navigating users in an indoor shopping mall.
According to a survey conducted and tests on similar indoor localisation mobile applications on market, these applications use Wifi sensing to locate a user. Wifi sensing relies on infrastructures such as hotspots that can be removed or changed over time.
Thus for this project, an indoor localisation mobile application based on sensing capabilities on the smartphone, and without reliance on infrastructures will be explored and developed on Android operating system. Human networks will also be relied on to collect data for building of floor maps.
In this report, an indoor localisation mobile application has been explored and developed to locate and navigate users based on magnetic fields and gyroscope data. Prior researched and understanding was conducted before the development of the project. |
