It first examined the evolution and progress of the healthcare system over time before providing an evaluation of the existing system. Through the evaluation, the paper identified the pervasive incentive system as the root of the many problems plaguing the healthcare system. In order for any recommendation to remain relevant, the paper proceeded to state the various challenges that China will face in years to come that may render existing policies irrelevant and ineffective, or impede the successful implementation of future reforms. With the problems and challenges in mind, the paper recommends (i) the adoption of a fixed wage system for doctors, and (ii) the segmentation of hospital wards. The paper then proceeds to explain how these changes may be beneficial to China’s healthcare system and help the government with the achievement of universal coverage, before concluding with proposals for future research. ABSTRACT
This paper attempts to discover the problems with healthcare system in China and propose policy recommendations that could potentially address those problems.
