The secondary aim was to examine the relationship between mental toughness and football penalty kick performance. Ten youth footballer, aged 16 to 17 (M=16.7 (0.483) years) completed a series of self-reporting questionnaires while attempting a penalty-kick scoring task. Pearson correlation showed that mental toughness was negatively related to trait anxiety as measured by the Sports Mental Toughness Questionnaire and Sport Anxiety Scale-2 respectively. No significant association was found between mental toughness and the remaining psychological constructs. Pearson correlations did not yield any significant association between mental toughness and penalty kick performance.
